Macao Innovation & Invention Association (MIIA) brief introduction
Macao Innovation & Invention Association (MiiA) registered in Macao as a non-profit organization in 2004 under the Society Ordinances with Governmental Approval No. 2411. After 11 years of development, MiiA today have over 60 professional members, including 21 institution members such as University of Macau, Macau University of Science & Technology, University of Saint Joseph, City University of Macau, Macau Polytechnic Institute and high schools, and, individual members with various career backgrounds such as professors, tutors, doctors, engineers, air pilots and professional workers from different fields. They are dedicated to the development of MiiA and constantly contribute their spare time and their knowledge in science popularization voluntarily for a better future of society.
We are committed to promoting, encouraging, advocating, providing assistance to any innovation and invention business of any field in Macao. We promote social emphasis on and awareness of innovation and invention. We encourage the inventors to protect their patent rights. We promote popularization of scientific knowledge and organize educational activities for youngsters. We gather resources for the development of science and technology. We initiate and participate in cooperation and exchange with other cultural, academic and social organizations, seminars and exhibitions. We provide guidance for members to handle their patent applications and provide assistance and advice to members to commercialize their patents or to publish their invention/patent-related articles. We introduce the latest information and technology to the community to strengthen local cultural and creative industries in alignment with the government policy in order to promote social stability, prosperity and economic development of Macao.

Building showcases for Macau Inventors, show around to the globe, Diversifying to facilitate international IP trade and connection to global IP players.
We have met our commitment target set for 10 years in only 7 years of time. Thanks to all of our honorary presidents and advisors for their effort and contributions. It was our honor to hold The Local Science Popularization Training and Invention Competition in Macau this year. This marked a very important milestone for Macau to be recognized as a pioneer in the innovation and invention business all due to MiiA taking a very active role in the invention community around the world in last 10 years. Apart from this, we have organized a wide range of academic exchange events. We have visited many cities, regions and countries like Beijing, Shanghai, Guangzhou, Hong Kong, Taiwan, Korea, Switzerland, Croatia and Malaysia. In last 3 years, we have hosted The International Innovation and Invention Competition every year. So far, we have had thousands of Competitionants bringing along with their invention exhibits from the cities, regions and countries mentioned above to enjoy the warm hospitality of this well-established World’s travel and leisure centre of Macao.
In order to strengthen our cooperation with other cities in China, we have signed agreements with The Shanghai Invention Association and The Guangdong Invention Association. Meanwhile, we have just signed and set up a joint Cooperation Milestone Plate in Guangzhou Science Park most recently with The Guangdong Invention Association and Hong Kong Invention Association.
In October of 2014, we had our latest joint program of invention exchange for three places finished with great success. We have just organized the “Shanghai, Hong Kong & Macao Teen-agers Tomorrow Technology Star Competition ,2014”, being held in Macao Science Pavilion and Macao University of Science and Technology. In the past 11 years, this Competition had been hosted by shanghai only, however, this year, Science & Technology Development Fund (FDCT), Education & Youth Affairs Bureau (Dsej) and Shanghai Science Popularization Development Fund. This was the first time for this Competition to be held outside Shanghai. This was also a kind of Macao Governmental trust in MiiA.
Introduction of Founder:
Mr. Lai, Pak-keong, graduated from Jinan University majoring in international finance.
There was luxury to have toys at his childhood, so, he made various interesting toys by himself, such as folding paper airplane, handmade kite, wooden ship by used ice candy sticks, that activated his innovate and invention idea, during the past 10 years, was elected as President upto present, he is contributing to the Invention field both in Macao and China with great achievement.
